WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS- Two airmen received medals for heroism today in a ceremony at Ashford General hospital, where both are patients.
Col Clyde M Beck, commanding officer, presented the distinguished flying cross and the air medal to Staff Sgt Gordon E Ackley, of (321 Marshall St.) Nankalo, Minn.
Ackley received the distinguished flying cross for heroism on operations against the Ploesti oil refineries in Romania Aug 1, 1943, and the air medal for five missions on a bomber over Ploesti, Austria, Holland, France and Italy.
