Earl Everett Ackley of Minong, died on Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Spooner Health System.
He was born on July 17, 1922, in Ashland to Paul and Lillian (Metzdorf) Ackley. He grew up in the Spooner/Lampson area and attended schools in both communities.

He served in the Army during World War II, owned Ackley Novelty for many years, and was postmaster at Trego for 17 years, retiring in 1980. He was a 45-year member of Moe-Miller American Legion Post #12 in Spooner and a member of Springbrook Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10568, and served on the Washburn County Board for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Lolly (Denham) Ackley, Minong; stepsons, Richard (Mary) Denham, Janesville, and Tom (Carla) Denham, Superior; stepdaughter, Pat (Jack) Brimblecom, Webster; step-grandchildren, Julie, Dionne, Jim, Nicole, and Bill Denham, Toni Tiegs, and Laura Lisdahl; a great-grandson, Nichlaus Lisdahl; brothers, Harvey Lawson and Otto (Darlene) Lawson, both of Sheldon, Iowa, and John (Margie) Lawson, Hertel; sisters, Louise Paskett, Duluth, Mildred Magnus, Fall Creek, Ann Johnson, Shell Lake, and Lillian Hoselton, Pleasant Prairie; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His parents and one brother, Paul Ackley, preceded him in death.
The funeral was held on Saturday, June 2, at Brown Funeral Home in Minong, with Rev. Ed Ketcham officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Minong. The Spooner Area Veterans Honor Guard accorded military honors.

Lolly was born on July 19, 1927, in Minong to Joe and Luella Denninger. After graduating from Minong High School, she was united in marriage to James Denham in January 1947. The couple lived in Cumberland until 1958 when they returned to Minong and owned and operated Jim and Lolly's Bar until 1973.

After James' death, Lolly acquired and ran the Hometown Bar in Minong for several years.

Lolly was a member of the Wisconsin Tavern League, Minong Lions Club, TOPS, the Rebecca Lodge, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Misfits Ladies Pool Team. After her retirement, she was caretaker for the Acorn Apartments where she was currently living.

Lolly is survived by her sons, Richard (Mary) Denham of Janesville and Thomas (Carla) Denham of Superior; five grandchildren, Julie Denham of Minong, Dionne (Jeff) King of Milwaukee, James (Caroline) Denham of Boston, Mass., Nicole Denham of Seattle, Wash., and William (Alyssa Bryant) Denham of Superior; five great-grandchildren, Caden, Ethan, Claire, Chase, and Brooklyn; sister Lucyann Edwards of Minong; and many nephews and nieces.

Lolly was preceded in death by her parents; husbands James Denham and Earl Ackley; two sisters; and three brothers.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong with Pastor Sara Pearson officiating.

Visitation will be held at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and also from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Interment will be at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery in Minong.

Casket bearers will be William Denham, James Denham, Caden Denham, Jeff King, Harvey Fiedler, and Lester (Skip) Fiedler.
