WATERSMEET—Vivian Theresa White Ackley, 67, started her journey home on July 21 at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff, Wis.
She was born at home March 11, 1937, daughter of the late Julia (Pete) and Harvey White Sr., on Lac Vieux Desert as part of the Lac Vieux Desert Band of the Lake Superior Chippewa Indian Village. She was married to Fred Ackley, Sr. in Crystal Falls in 1960. She became stepmother to Arlin and Fred Ackley. Her real life dream was realized this Mother’s Day when her long lost daughter, Cynthia Diane, was found and they were reunited after 45 years. As an honored Elder, she was revered for her humor, knowledge, giving nature and being the “Killer.” If anyone needed help, this little lady would be there to give whatever was needed. She loved bingo, people and visiting, but was finding the road very rough to travel at the end. She was preceded in death by a son Gerald; a sister Theresa; and brothers, William and Donald.
She is survived by her daughter Cynthia (William) Webb of Texas, her step-sons, Arlin and Fred Ackley of Mole Lake, Wis.; sisters, Grace (Joseph) Jackson, Rena Curtiss and Jennie (Merlin) Metoxin; brothers, Harvey (Carol) White, Patrick White and Robert (Donna) White; numerous nieces and nephews; and scores of relatives and friends who loved her.
A traditional service was held July 24 at the Lac Vieux Desert Village site (Pow Wow grounds).
The Wandersee Funeral Home in Bruce Crossing assisted the Lac Vieux Desert Community. Vivian is Native American839
