Born July 8, 1932, in Machiasport, Maine, Ev was the son of the late Everard and Beatrice (Ackley) Crocker.
Ev grew up in Machiasport, Maine, and graduated from Washington Academy. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from Washington State Teachers College and completed a master’s degree in education and a master’s degree in guidance.
Ev was also a member of the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.
Ev began his teaching career in Ellsworth, Maine, before moving to Lake George in 1963. Ev taught grades 4 and 7 until he became the elementary guidance counselor, a position he held until he retired in 1987. Ev met his wife and fellow teacher, Claudette, while teaching at Lake George.
Ev and Claudette were married in Glens Falls in 1971 and settled in South Glens Falls on Feeder Dam Road to raise their children. Ev was very active in their lives, leading a 4-H group along with Claudette and always focused on family. Ev also remained very close to his roots and family in East Machias, Maine.
Ev was well known in the community, and was a member of the South Glens Falls Board of Education, serving as vice president at one time. Ev also served as vice president of Saratoga County School Boards Association, and was an active member of South Glens Falls United Methodist Church for many years, teaching Sunday school and participating in the Methodist Youth Fellowship.
Ev collected antiques and had a chair caning and furniture repair business, demonstrating chair caning and basket weaving at many area events. He enjoyed spending time with his family, bird watching, early morning walks, crossword puzzles and, in his later years, he was comforted by his pets, Princess the dog and Meow the cat.
Ev’s wife, Claudette, passed away in February of 2011, and their family is comforted to know they are once again together.
Ev is survived by his son, Brian, and his wife, Mary (Bailey) Crocker, who reside in Burlington, Vt.; and his daughter, Lynne Crocker Gugliotta, and granddaughter, Mia Angelette Gugliotta, who reside in Charlotte, N.C. Ev is also survived by his brother, Benjamin Crocker, and his wife, Mary Anne, of Bucks Harbor, Maine; as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at South Glens Falls United Methodist Church, 15 Maplewood Parkway, South Glens Falls, with the Rev. Jeff Stratton officiating.
