Garfield Arthur Ackley, who came to Nevada in the early days of the settlement of Wadsworth died Monday in a local hospital.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services Thursday morning at 10 o'clock in the Ross-Burke Co. chapel . The Rev. Rafe C Martin will officiate and burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
Mr. Ackley, who resided at 1375 No. Virginia St., was born Oct. 19, 1880 in Oakhill, Kans. He was a barber and later was employed by the Veterans Administration, but had retired prior to his death. He also operated the cigar counter in the old Waldorf.
Locally, Mr. Ackley was a member of Reno Aerie No. 207, Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Hattie Ackley of Reno; a stepson, R. Guild Gray of Las Vegas; a daughter, Mrs. Juanita Jensen of Reno; a sister, Minnie Emma MacArthur of Wadsworth; a niece, Marjorie MacArthur of Reno; and a nephew, Frank Gladman of Oakland. Hattie Ackley, 86, died Wednesday in a Las Vegas rest home.
Born Jan 21, 1890 in Crowder, Mo., she lived in Reno for 59 years before moving to Las Vegas three years ago. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge in Reno.
Surviving are a daughter, Juanita Jenson of Reno; a son, Raymond Guild Gray of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.
A private graveside funeral is scheduled for Monday at Mountain View Cemetery. Ross, Burke & Knoble Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Hattie had Social Security Number 530-32-7788 NV.1751 She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Reno, Washoe, Nevada, United States.1865
